6 Day Low land gorilla tracking and hiking mount Nyiragongo is a fun-packed safari that has many activities that will fascinate you. This tour is in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Kigali. Some of the main activities include Gorilla tracking for low land gorillas and hiking mount Nyiragongo.
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali – Rwanda
Airport pickup and transfer to your Hotel in Kigali. Early arrivals can take an optional tour of Kigali city and the surrounding areas.
Day 2: Kigali – Bukavu- DR Congo
After breakfast, depart Kigali; drive southwards to Cyangugu boarder on the way to Bukavu in DR Congo. Lunch stop in Butare; afterwards visit the national museum of Rwanda, continue on a scenic journey to Bukavu with wonderful views of the hills in Rwanda through the tropical forest of Nyungwe National park and a clear view of Lake Kivu.
Day 3: Lowland Gorilla tracking in Kahuzi Biega – DR Congo
Today, you will head for the memorable adventure, tracking the lowland gorillas in Kahuzi Biega National park. Lowland Gorillas differ from the mountain gorillas; the lowland gorillas are bigger, on average, the tracking takes about 4 hours. The lowland Gorillas stay in bigger families as compared to mountain gorillas; this a special moment being with this creature (Gorilla)! Later in the afternoon drive back to your hotel.
Day 4: Bukavu – Goma
Today, after your breakfast, take a speed boat on the Lake Kivu, from Bukavu to Goma which takes 3-4 hours. Upon arrival in Goma, you will be transferred to your hotel for dinner and overnight
Day 5: Nyiragongo Hike
This is a day for hiking to the summit of Mt Nyiragongo an active volcano in the heart of Virunga national park. You will have an early morning breakfast and go for briefing at the hiking starting point. Hiking starts at 10:00 am taking you roughly 6 hours to reach the summit of the volcano.
Day 6: Descending & Departure
After breakfast at the summit, downhill mountains where you will reach down at around noon depending on the group speed. Upon arrival at the bottom proceed back to Goma – Gisenyi border post and continuous back to Kigali.
