Overview
10 Days Lowland Gorilla Tracking Safari brings to Kigali Kahuzi Biega and Virunga safari that will give you a lot in wildlife and nature view. You will visit Kigali City, Kahuzi -biega Congo and the Virunga. Expect to see the lowland and mountain gorillas, hiking the Nyiragongo volcano.
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali – Rwanda (Pick up at the airport)
Airport pickup and transfer to your Hotel in Kigali. Early arrivals can take an optional tour of Kigali city including the Kimironko market and the Genocide memorials and the surrounding areas. Overnight and Dinner at Des Milles Collines Hotel
Day 2: Kigali- Bukavu- DR Congo
After your breakfast, drive southwards to Cyangugu boarder on the way to Bukavu in DR Congo. Have lunch stop in Butare, where you will visit the national museum of Rwanda, the king's palace in Nyanza, and the Rwanda genocide memorial site. After lunch, continue on a scenic journey to Bukavu with wonderful views of the hills in Rwanda through the tropical forest of Nyungwe National park and a clear view of Lake Kivu. Dinner and overnight at Panorama Hotel
Day 3: Lowland Gorilla tracking in Kahuzi Biega – DR Congo
After your breakfast, drive to Kahuzi Biega, head for the memorable adventure of lowland gorillas tracking in Kahuzi Biega National park. Lowland Gorillas differ from the mountain gorillas; the lowland gorillas are bigger in size, the tracking takes about 4 hours. The lowland Gorillas stay in bigger families as compared to mountain gorillas; this is a unique moment of this safari to encounter this above creature (Gorillas)! Afternoon, enjoy your drive back to your hotel. Dinner and overnight at Panorama Hotel
Day 4: Transfer to Goma
Today, early morning, a speed boat on the Lake Kivu, from Bukavu to Goma which takes approximately 3-4 hours. Upon arrival in Goma, you will be transferred to your hotel. Dinner and overnight at La Joie Plaza
Day 5: Goma- Virunga National Park
Today after paperwork, you will be transferred to Mikeno Lodge at the Park headquarters in Rumangabo. On arrival to Mikeno Lodge, afternoon shall be at pleasure including exploring Rumangabo's several nature trails, bird watching or paying a visit to Virunga's Congo hounds. Dinner and overnight at Mikeno Lodge
Day 6: Virunga National Park: First Gorilla Tracking.
After an early breakfast, off for briefing then start your first gorilla tracking at Bukima Ranger Post. On arrival to Bukima, trekkers will meet their Ranger guides and local porters to receive a briefing before starting the gorilla tracking. This may take about 5 hours of hiking each way, depending on the location of the group being trekked and the difficulty of the terrain. The afternoon will be at leisure at your lodge. Dinner and overnight at Bukima Tented Camp
Day 7: Virunga National Park: Second Gorilla Trek.
At 8:30 am, start the second gorilla trek. Upon return, a quick lunch will be served at Bukima and when all gorilla trekkers have returned, guests will be transported back to Mikeno Lodge. On arrival to Mikeno, guests have the afternoon at leisure, free to explore the Park headquarters. Dinner and overnight at Mikeno Lodge.
Day 8: Virunga National Park
Day at pleasure, explore and enjoy the peaceful surroundings of Mikeno Lodge. Dinner and overnight at Mikeno Lodge
Day 9: Virunga National Park - Nyiragongo Hike
After breakfast, transfer to the Kibati Ranger Post, the departure point for the Nyiragongo volcano trek. On arrival at Kibati, climbers will receive a briefing and have the opportunity to hire porters. The climb up the volcano takes around four to six hours and trekkers will overnight on the summit.
Day 10: Descend and Back to Kigali
Early in the morning, climbers will leave the crater rim and start the descent back to Kibati. The average descent time is four hours. Once at the bottom, guests will be transported back to Goma and continue to Kigali. Depending on your flight, you will be dropped off at the airport in time for your check-in. End of the 10 days Kigali Kahuzi Biega and Virunga safari.
